I grow Yubi series purslane every year. It's indispensable for difficult sun situations. I've put it in places I wouldn't even put lantana, because it has less water need, believe it or not. I keep several hanging baskets of it in places I seldom water, and more in planters sitting atop fence posts near my veggie garden I NEVER water.

Love it! In the past, I used it with great success in hanging baskets, delegated for full sun, salt air duty! They always drew the short straw, lol. What performers they are and such luscious colors. Keep it cut back or pinched in order to maintain some fullness.

Wally, the image I used is of the many color variations of Portulaca oleracea, which are all hybrids of the common purslane you are confused about. Plant breeders have developed successful hybrids of common purslane, many of which can be observed in every garden center across the country.

The 'Moss Rose' portulace, Portulaca grandiflora, is something quite different. Observe the flat foliage of the plants in the image and you will see the difference. P. grandiflora foliage is needle-like.

The colorful and dramatic portulaca I am referring to has very flat foliage, is very wide spreading, and quite different than 'Moss Rose'.
