I wouldn't plant more, they will take off eventually. What kind of sunlight are they getting? Mine are/were in full sun. I say were cuz they were just getting ready to climb the support I gave them and the bunnies had a feast on them. Trudi suggested I start some more and put them out when the bunnies are over them, I don't know if I want to mess with that ???? I do have a few reseeders from last year in a different bed I may move there but not until I get my liquid fence. in my experiances They do best in full sun but when they bloom the flowers will close up when they are in the full sun. They like poor soil and not a whole lot of water.

You're starting seed indoors and then transplanting the seedlings later? No need for all that extra work -- just plant seeds outdoors (they don't like to transplant -- ever notice how seldom you see them in nurseries?).

I'm on my third or fourth year with them here in Michigan -- I don't even buy seed anymore, as they reseed so readily. I really don't do much at all other than make sure they get water regularly in early summer and thin them out as needed.

They are, however, rather variable. I probably have three or four different cultivars going right now, and some are 2" tall, some are 12" tall, and a few are over 2' with one over 4'! All of these are in the same spot -- along the privacy fence that's alongside our pool. In a month I'll have 40 lineal feet of 6' privacy fence covered with leaves and blooms!

I've gotten much better at making them even now. Last year I used plastic chicken-wire (oops, sorry, the Politically Correct term is "poultry netting"!) that was stapled to the posts, and that worked well, but I wanted something more permanent. This year I put up vinyl-coated "cattle fencing". Already the babies are climbing up it like it's their own personal Jungle Gym! :o)

As for bunnies, I've had wonderful luck with Liquid Fence (see link below). Smells gawdawful until it dries, but boy, is it ever effective!
