I see them in nurseries up here, but for some reason they tend to be over by the tomatoes and herbs rather than the annuals. I think that's the main reason I noticed them this year; I thought "what in heck are these doing over HERE?" Sure, the flowers are edible, but that's a stretch to file it in the vegetables because of that.

They probably sell them by the vegetables because some folks use nasturtiums to deter insects (at least I've read they deter some insects, I have no idea whether they actually do).

There are some killer nasturtiums for sale at Annies Annuals, in particular, some fully double varieties that can only be propagated by cuttings because they do not set seeds. The fully doubles are 'Darjeeling Gold', which is yellow, 'Hermine Grashof', which is a true red, and 'Margaret Long', which is a beautiful salmon/apricot. I am fortunate to live nearby, so I plan to pick up a 'Margaret Long' sometime soon. Unfortunately, it is not available at the moment, but the moment it is, I'll be running over there. -Annie's does mail order too.

Nasturtiums are usually grown from seed because their roots resent being disturbed, so you're never going to find them in flats, for instance. Larger, individually potted plants can be slid out and planted in the garden with less stress on the roots.

Indeed, they do. I see them all the time in various colours and combinations thereof. I always just buy seed though. They tend to resent transplanting and are so easy to sow and flower that it is just a bit more economical to buy seed. The choice is better as well, and they reseed themselves like mad.

Well I just saw some on Friday evening at my Home Depot of all places! I was surprised as could be but there they were. They didn't look very nice after a week of heavy rain storms but Home Depot couldn't help that! They had them in the outside area with only a light covering over head.

Around here, virtually every nursery sells them! I buy them in six packs all the time...haven't had any self seed in years.
