Sorry for Silly Question re deadheading daffs

Hi All-

Daffs are my favorite flowers and one flower the deer tend to avoid in my yard. Thank God! My question is when you take the spent flower from the stalk do you just take the flower or that swollen part behind the flower? Also it doesn't seem to me that my daffs multiply and they have plenty of room. What can I do to encourage this? I get my bulbs from Breck's and love the large trumpets like Chromacolor and Mount Hood. This year I put in an order for the Poet's Daffodil. I think they are adorable and hear they have a scent; an added bonus.

Thanking you in advance,
