I do not have any live oaks but yes they are used in bonsai. It seems that there has been several waves of people in the last month or two asking about them. If you look through some of the older threads I suspect you'd find about three or four concerning live oaks. -G

The acorns die if allowed to dry out for very long. Ideally they should be planted right away, if that's not possible, they should be kept slightly moist or damp.

Anyway, Live Oaks can make great bonsai material and itÂs easy to grow and grows pretty fast if conditions are right.

There's also plenty of info on the net about them.

Just know that Coastal Live Oak that those left-coasters talk about isn't going to be the same live oak that you got in NC. They also grow rather slowly and develop a tap root that you'll need to deal with.
