Tulip buds died

Most of my tulips came up and bloomed for me, and they were true to their labels.

But some didn't bloom at all. And one patch of three different types of tulip sent up flower buds but never bloomed. The buds stopped developing and began to dry up and cave in on themselves.

Anyone know why? I guess it would have to do with the location, since I planted tulips from the very same bags elsewhere and they did fine. But the soil/light at that location isn't that different from any other place in my yard.

Very disappointing. I was looking forward to these tulips. The iris are doing fine there, and the crocus there bloomed.
