I grew touch of red one year, but not the mixed ones, just the buff color. It was pretty, but the woodchucks ate it all up before it did much blooming. The flower (I believe I only got one before it got eaten) was really nice though. I am thinking of trying them again, does anyone know if they bloom all summer? Or are they a cool weather annual?

I grow orange porcupine. While the flowers are stunning, calendulas flop all over the place and need constant deadheading and cutting back to look nice. Each year I am less interested in planting them. They do look best in cool weather. I'd be interested in a cultivar with a compact habit.

I have seen photos of calendula that were so gorgeous, and I am hoping to find seed for them somewhere this winter. I have seen 'Indian Prince' looking great in a kitchen garden. I have had regular calendula that grew really pretty, but I didn't save the seed and never got another one that I was quite as happy with. I am going to keep trying new varieties until I find another one I like. I don't mind deadheading it but I would like a better habit of growth, and thicker double blooms. I love that they are so easy to collect seed from and easy and fast to start from seed.

I grew the 'Cheddar Dwarf Mix' from Pinetree seeds this year. It certainly flowered all summer but was too dwarf for me - I'd say they stayed in the 10" range. I think I will go back to 'Indian Prince' next year. Yes, they flop a bit but I just tuck them in around the edges of a perennial bed to add a splash of color.

The Seeds of Change catalog had some really interesting looking varieties this year but no short ones, sorry.

Thanks Nancy for that tip. Is that an online catalog? I saw the largest selection of calendula at Log Home Favorites. They evidently don't sell directly but place in retail outlets. Mostly there aren't any around me. A lot of them on the West coast..some in NY..etc. But great list. If anyone has a chance to look at the website and knows whether they have an outlet near them, I would be interested.

Yes, Seeds of Change is a catalog and they can be found on the web too. I think they are New Mexico based. But I must have had a little brain cramp when I wrote my post. The catalog that has the interesting calendula is Seed Savers. It's an heirloom seed outfit out of Iowa. You can find them on the web and they have a catalog too.

I have recently fallen in love with Calendulas. They are easy-going, despite the rather pathetic soil we have in our yard. This year I planted Pacific Beauty, your standard type. Some doubles, in yellow, tipped, and a terrific glowing orange. IN the Veseys Seeds catalogue (Canadian) they have a new variety this year called Victoria Sunset. They are mostly doubles, with vivid orange and edging of burnt orange. Stunning! I ordered some. Couldn't help it!

I grew Victoria Sunset, and it is very nice. Initially I wasn't happy with it - too much deadheading - but as the season went on these plants continued to bloom very strong, survived some light frosts and I only lost them last week when we had a very hard frost. They were literally covered in bloom all season long.

YES I TO LOVE CALENDULAS, HERE IN FL. WE PLANT SEEDSIN OCT. AND THEY BLOOM FROM JAN. - APR. TOUCH OF RED IS PRETTY AND THE PINKISH ONES.

I was wondering where to get Calendula Seeds... I have looked all over for them ie: Home Depot, Walmart and nothing... The Calendula Plant & Flower are very good with health problems and would like to grown my own. So hopefully someone out there can help... Thanks in advance

I love Kablouna mix! They don't stand bolt-upright, but they don't flop and they're about 18 inches.

Indian Prince is also gorgeous. I grew them 2 years ago. You can't go wrong with either.

Seeds of Change has Kablouna. Seed Savers Exchange has Indian Prince.
