If you look at a good bulb catalog, for example, Brent and Becky's, you will see that there are several divisions of daffodils. As a rule of thumb, jonquilla division is your best bet almost every time. They tend to be smaller bulbs, but they will return and multiply like crazy in your area. They don't mind damp soil, heavy soil, or humidity. They don't need much cold in the winter to come back. They are also early blooming and very sweetly fragrant. Early blooming is important because the later bloomers are often gone in a few short days due to our early warm weather.

Not a daffodil, but a truly excellent spring blooming bulb is Leucojum. It will do in some shade and doesn't mind damp at all. Ditto, Ipheion, especially Rolf Fiedler.
