Thanks for Googling for me. I guess I should have done that myself, and still can. The link describes transplanting sunflowers that were grown from seed. I've had a lot of experience with that, as it's something I do every year. I didn't think the process was the same for planting a broken stem that had been rerooted in water, but perhaps I'm wrong about that. I'll see what I can find.

The process is not the same at all. Transplanting cuttings that have been rooted in water is completely different from seedlings that have been grown in soil. The root systems are entirely different, for one thing. Some plants will make the giant leap from water to soil in good shape, while others simply won't.

Be sure that you provide a well-drained, porous soil and maybe even some staking for stability. Your cutting might need some 'security' until it develops a 'real' root system in the soil.
