Jacobean lilies bloom rather early at the beginning of the vegetation period. You can not expect blooms on plants in full vegetative (leaf) growth.

Principally you treat these plants like hippeastrums (gardener's amaryllis). That means regular water administering (but never TOO much) and good fertilization to establish the biggest possible bulbs.

Most bloomeablle bulbs emerge one flower stalk (with one bloom), some two stalks. These appear with the first leaves and grow far more rapidly (as related to their final length) than those of Hippeastrums.

A difference to Hippeastrum is that Sprekelia does not necessarily retain its roots during the winter reposal. Thus you can store them (13°C and 10 to 17°C respectively, like Hippeastrum) fully dry and fully cleaned without any disadvantage and even treat them more thoroughly against pests and diseases (if there are any) than you can do with gardener's amaryllis. These exhibit much much better bloom performance if left undisturbed-ly in their pots...

The bulbs I got last year only gave foliage. This year I got some beautiful flowers. Unfortunately it got pretty hot here and they did not last long but still made me happy. I suspect that they are like all other bulbs in that the proper source is important. they are out in the sun with my hippeastrums hopefully storing energy for next year.

Like hippeastrum my sprekelias also remain ever green.
Should I cut off water and force them in to dormency to get blooms.
