I have no clue other than it is a shorter variety suited for pot culture and I think the cultivar name started with a "B".

Not a silly question at all. Sunflowers in general bloom once, turn their heads to the ground, then die when the seeds are ripe. Ripe seeds fall out easily if you rub them.

If your plants are a single stalk with 1 flower at the top, like mammoth, that's going to be it. Once in a while, you'll get a tiny side-shoot with a tiny flower on it. Might as well wait for the seeds to ripen for the birds or for you to plant next year since deadheading won't encourage more flowers.

If you have a more bushy type, like teddy bear, it will make several flowers, 1 at the top of each branch. Cutting the first flower as soon as it is done can help encourage more blooms, but not always.
