Annual Dianthus

Hi,

I have some annual Dianthus I want to plant in front of my Oriental lilies to shade the roots. I dont know anything about them except they are pretty : ) Do they prefer dry/moist and do they reseed to come back the next year? Do I need to deadhead to keep them blooming? Thank you!

What kind of dianthus do you have? Some will reseed and some won't, depending on the winter. Some will also winter over. They like it evenly moist, well drained, and not dried out. They like sun, too. Deadheading will give more flowers, but the best thing is to shear them down to the fresh, new green growth after the first flush of flowers is just about done.

Thank you Susan. I think they are called Floral Lace mix. Pink/white, red etc. I sure hope they reseed, they will look beautiful with my pink lilies : )
