I have "Grampa Ott's" Morning Glory, and it has been blooming for weeks. These were self seeded from the vines I grew last year. I'm in Gand Rapids, MI, which is north of Chicago by three hours or more.

Awesome! I should try that variety and not this one I bought. I'm disappointed because my wait time has been horrible. Mine is still a bud with like fingers on top opening. Not sure when it will become a flower. How long does the flower last?

I was wrong after googling it. What I am seeing right now in my vine is moonflower buds based from this link.

My friend in Maine has had her morning glories blooming for awhile...
they are called 'president tyler' : a pretty purple,45 days to bloom. Seeds from Johnny's.

I've never caught a waft from one or two flowers, but you might, IDK. If you can reach one, you can snap it off for better sniffing. Sharing your excitement!

This morning I was watering my vines, I noticed 3 blooms from Goldflame Honeysuckle. I smelled it from 5 ft away :)

It's the best scent I've smelled. I also like the scent of my Lilac and Honeylocust but Honeysuckle was the best!!!

That's very cool! Different people have different sniffing abilities, in both ability to detect certain scents more easily, or scents that can't be detected by some at all. Yours sounds very strong/sensitive. My Mom has a vine that makes little yellow flowers that I can never remember to take a pic of to find out what it is. It only takes a few of those for me to be able to sniff across the yard, if downwind. Now that's funny because she says she's never been able to smell it at all, even up close. It should be in my yard! No luck with cuttings yet, going to try layering.

Do you do any house plants? Some of those can make a bloom that scents a whole room.

Sorry, was busy at work. When you say house plants, you're referring to indoors. If so, not much but I want to. I have few that are doing well. I think it's called rubber plant. I also have Orchids but it's not doing well.

Yes, indoor plants. The folks on the orchid forum should be able to help you with that orchid. There's a house plant forum for most others, but I gotta warn you, clicking around in there can cause more problems than it solves... if you slide down the slippery slope of enabling and addiction. Some are more susceptible to foliage fever than others.

There's also a fragrant forum, though cultivating in pots solely for the purpose of sniffing scented flowers is usually a frustrating enterprise if you don't also love the leaves, there are some that are fairly reliable, annually or better, and certainly possible to collect some otherwise visually interesting plants within the fragrant realm. (Really, that's one sentence? I think it's grammatically OK, but probably a little babbly...)

So, those are the forums to avoid, if you want things to stay the way they are... Smiles!

When a Hoya flowers indoors, it perfumes the entire room. Not sure if I actually like the smell though, it is very funeral parlour-like, lol.

The annual that I plant every year close to my house is Matthiola bicornis aka Night Scented Stock...it is divine.

My morning glories have been blooming for several weeks; they are actually on the decline now, with leaves that are yellowing. I have never grown the moonflower.
