Yes, there was a thread earlier this Spring on planting annuals of all one color in a flower bed, and also salivas were mentioned. I was asked to post a pic, and I finally was able. This bed is bordered by boxwood kept to 8" high, it's about five years old now. The annual blue salvia does so well in dry hot conditions that I go back to it again and again. This year I planted the purple variety intermingled with the blue. Unfortunately, you can't see the purple at all in this photo. I tried to make it larger if you care to take another look.

I think the closely related color scheme is a great choice since the bed is so neat and well defined. Besides, from the look of that garden, you're certainly one good garden housekeeper!

You can't beat annual Salvias like Victoria Blue for continuous color. Their upright habit, given enough sun, is tremendous.

Unfortunately, the only butterflies that nectared from it so far are the ubiquitous Cabbage Whites who were all over it.

In spite of that I'll definitely use it again in the only full sun bed I've got for the abundance of color and health of the plants.

Thanks you. The salvia plays host to many bees, also. And yes, one of my friends made the comment that he feels uncomfortable in my garden - it's TOO neat. Well, there's just something about keeping that line straight and grass manicured that has the opposite effect on me. I blame it on the fact that I used to paint, and I've carried that into gardening. Creating paintings wherever I can in the landscape. Sometimes I don't realize I'm doing it. I remember that same friend visiting my garden one time and sitting very slowly down on the edge of a bench with his hands in his lap, as tho he was going to step on or break something. I felt so guilty! But now I laugh about it.
