I would ask your favorite seed company what to do. I don't even know if you register a new variety of flower. I do know that they are field tested for a few years. They have to know if it will always perform the same way. Whatever you used as parent plants may affect your claim too.

There is a "Professional Gardener" forum on GW. The people there are quite knowledgable in this area.

I also happpen to have this bookmarked a while ago, but I have never used them, so I don't know if they are good or bad.
