About the only 'old' pansy I can think of is 'Maggie Mott' - a blue which has been around since at least the early 1900s. (I think there's also one named 'Irish Molly', though I'm not sure of its vintage.)

The seed pod is usually green to start with, fatter round than a bud, and gently pointed. It has segment lines from its tip to where its cup joins the stem. The seeds look similar to miniature radish seeds and are carried in a row somewhat like pea seeds.

When the pod is ripe it splits and flings the seeds everywhere. A few seeds may be left and they are sometimes shaken loose by the wind or movement.

They often sprout of themselves in the autumn damp time and grow on over the winter in mild climates. They may have the sense to wait for spring in colder places.
