It will take awhile for your plant's roots to colonize a container that large. I'm afraid the soil will not drain fast enough & your plant will not use the water at the bottom of the container before you feel a need to water again. This can easily cause root problems (rot). You CAN grow small plants in large containers, but the soil has to drain freely. I think you'd be better served to select a container about half the diameter you mentioned. Adding a wick until the roots have colonized the container will help with drainage, too
