My home was built in the late 1800's and is a simple single level farmhouse. At some point a previous owner had all of the ceilings (except in two bedrooms) textured. They were professionally done in a beautiful swirled pattern. My problem is, that to me, they feel too formal for the rest of the house. I would like to use board and batten on the walls of the main rooms. Do you think that the board and batten would help to tone down the formality of the ceilings or would the two clash? Every picture of B&B that I have found shows it paired with planked ceilings.

Also, in the two bedrooms which currently have dropped ceilings I want to replace them with plank ceilings. The dilemma here is that we are going to open up the wall between the kitchen and the smallest bedroom to enlarge the kitchen to make space for a dinning area. If we place a faux beam between the two sections (plank and textured ceilings) will this create an odd a look? The combined rooms would make the kitchen an "L" shape. It would be impossible to duplicate the texture that is in the rest of the house. Thank you kindly.
