You could.. I wouldnt bother.. I like my pots very full for maximum roots,etc, I leave roughly half an inch from the top of the pot.. Water will make the potting mix half the volume... If you fill it to the brim,water will just spill over the side and not penetrate the soil.. Leave a little space..

Agree. No to the rocks, and about half an inch to an inch from the brim with a good potting mix.

I have these same pots. The biggest problem is that even with the false bottom in them, there is no drainage. I take a power drill and punch holes in the bases of mine.

But then, I use these big pots outside where it will rain in them and fill them up. If you plan on using them inside or under a cover where you will be the one watering them in a controlled fashion, they're fine.

Any container has to have drain holes of some kind. Are these supposed to be self watering or what?

They have 8 dime size drilled holes in the bottom
