I wish I could use a .22, Cody. It would simplify things considerably. Canadian gun laws are strict and the process for owning a gun is long and a bit expensive. So we will have to try a different method this time.

Tis why they make hatchets. Best for big, tough goose and turkey necks.

Do you have any access to a killing cone? It's a large metal cone with an opening at the bottom for the birds' head. The metal cone holds the birds body and contains any thrashing. I don't envy you the job of tackling such a large bird, I'd be interested in hearing how you finally go about it.

I don't have a killing cone, Velvet, but I remember someone else saying they substituted a feed sack with one corner cut out. I am very fortunate that I don't have to tackle him alone, as this will obviously go better as a two-person job. His wings are more dangerous than his bill since one can always restrain his head by grabbing his neck, so I think if we can contain them we will be okay.

I'm not looking forward to this at all...but I will be glad when he is gone. I can't even go down to do my chores unless Brian or my son David stand guard. And I have those two silly geese sitting on one nest that I have to sort out very soon. It's never dull, is it?
