Troy

HI, I wish what I'm about to tell you guys wasn't true, because it hurts so bad, but we lost Troy on the 20 of May. It was my bday and I went out to feed everybody. I looked for troy and didn't see her anywhere, so I started panicking...then I saw her lying up against the fence on the ground. She was dead; I think a raccoon killed her because we saw bloody footprints that looked exactly like raccoon tracks.

I'm so upset; Troy was the duck with the leg that wasn't quite right--she couldn't walk well so I always fed her and brought her water/food to her. I miss her more than words can say. It's really hard because I had her almost 4 years. She really depended on me to always take care of her and I just really miss Troy. She was a wonderful duck and I'll never forget the great times we had...

Sorry to hear about your loss with Troy. I feel bad that something like that has happened. I know how it feels to have lost a pet. It sucks. Well, I hope you feel better soon. Troy is in (I hope) everyone's prayers.

    Thankyou for your replies everyone.

Here she was; she was just as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside.

Well Genny, would it help at all to know that you and your ducks were in part, a big inspiration for us to try raising Muscovies?

If I'm not mistaken, you have enjoyed quite a number of them. (Not sure if Troy was one from the pic or not). After some research, we thought we'd add a few to our flock as well. We now have 5 babies. I don't know their gender yet, but they certainly have proved to be the most modest and well behaved little creatures! We've had quite a busy Spring so far rearing goslings and battling another raccoon over here. In the middle of all the mayhem, members of "the M Team" as we call them have been so patient, so polite, and so undemanding - they practically take turns at the feeding bowl. We've likened them to 'the English-proper" version of a duck. Just a quiet little twitter to say "All quite tickety boo here now, so cheerio and hope your day is just ducky!"

No wonder your love them so much.

Sorry to hear about your loss and thank you for letting us know about these interesting birds.

    HI LF & RJ!

I'm so happy that you got some muscovies!! And, I'm glad that by me sharing my stories and experiences with mine inspired you to get some :) I've had a goose and 4-5 dif. kinds of ducks, but my muscovies have ALWAYS been my favorite.

They just seem to have so much character and each one has a different personality--maybe that's what makes them so unique and different... but I really love them.

You're gonna love your baby muscovies too!!
A mother Muscovy from the pond next door came over here and laid some eggs, and they all hatched on the 21 of May, so we've got more now :) !!! They're so adorable!

We also just got a new great pyrenees puppy so I hope when she grows up she'll help guard our ducks from raccoons and other animals like that..

    Talk to you later,
    Genny
