have tried every kind of edging known to man over the years and have been happiest using nothing controlling the edges with a weed whip.
No matter what you use things will grow over, around and through it anyway. you end up having to edge anyway .
and no matter what you use it gets in the way ???
With the weed whip I dig a shallow trench separating whatever. Can't beat the price for sure costs nothing lol. My two cents gary

What's a weed whip? Just a shallow trench? I don't understand how that would work at all! It seems like over the course of a week the above ground runners would cross the trench (unless you're talking about a gigantic trench!) and the roots would go below it to the other side. What am I missing?

Hard to believe that with all the technology around us and everyone wanting our money, no-one has come up with a t-shaped border to control the roots underground and making a path for the mower tire. At this point, I'd spend the money if I was sure it would work!

Weed whip is a trimmer that uses a nylon string rather than a blade to cut. Generally need one anyway where a mower can't reach. I found grass to be the most invasive in beds so even with any kind of border the grass will still grow into it. So the border must be edged anyway.
I just use the weedwhip on it's side to define borders between beds . Yes it still needs to be redone constantly but is MUCH easier with nothing in the way.
Probably the best borders are brick, one set at ground level another behind vertical. If set in mortar nothing can grow between. but the grass will still grow over the flat brick. may work entirely differt in your zone but I'm in 10 and things grow year around.

Thanks Gary---never heard the term weed whip before---I call it a weed whacker!

The brick sounds great---just an enormous amount of work, but I may have to do it at some point. My grass would definitely grow over the brick but that would certainly slow everything down.

I was just looking for an easy solution, but I guess there is none...
