What a clever idea! I love looking at things in new and different ways.

Lately I've seen more galvanized metals in gardens, and I imagine the zince is good for plants. Not so sure the zinc (and cadmium?) is so good for people, and there is a remote chance the plant could take up enough of those elements to be a problem.

I would imagine though if you put a liner, like the kind you use for ponds, around the inside of the liner, it would give you the extra degree of protection.

I, too, envision creating a raised garden bed using 37" W x 24" high x 16" deep, half-round galvanized window wells. Each will be centered along the panels of a galvanized chainlink fence. My problems is that I do not know what to use on the open side to prevent soil and drainage from seeping through the chain links. Any recommendations on a easy-to-use, easy-to-size, weather-proof material to attach to the open side? Alternatively, any suggestions as to where I can purchase pre-cut sheets (37" wide, of course) of something that will work?
