I am a bit confused. Did you purchase blooming flowers that were in a pot? Or, have the bulbs been in your yard for at least one growing season? Or what?

If you just purchased the bulbs, then no dividing is necessary (or appropriate). After they have been in the ground for one year, you can dig them, split apart the bulbs (should be several 'daughters') and replant at the same depth.
