Cool idea. Reminds me of something we did with broken dishes:

I volunteered at a charity that received discards from department stores. We'd get a whole set of dishes in its original box with one or more pieces broken. We'd reuse the good dishes, and I collected the broken stuff. Made some concrete stepping stones with a circular mold and pressed the remains of a colorful coffee cup or plate into the top of the wet cement. Voila, whimsical stepping stone. Visitors love them.

Great Idea! Here is another one - I use broken pots without bottoms to protect new starts. It is cute and it ensure the the lawn guy doesn't mow over babies, which was a very big issue in the past, when trying to naturalize perennials. :)
