Well, yes and no. They all taste like raspberries to some degree. The yellow ones tend to be less acidic, higher in sugar content, sort of a honey overtone when dead ripe. They are highly prized and command premium prices. I've heard they fetch about $20 a quart in the gourmet trade, such as to high end restaurants.

Right, they're both raspberries, but they do taste quite different. But, even the yellows taste different amongst themselves. The yellow Anne is arguably the best tasting raspberry of them all, and tastes like a very good, very sweet red. Kiwi Gold though has a very unique flavor which is hard to describe, but still very good. I'd stay well away from Fall Gold as it has production/yield problems and doesn't come close to comparing to the other two.

I really must recommend that you stay away from the Carton'd containers at Walmart (if that's what these are... and they usually are from Walmart/big box stores). I don't claim to be an expert gardener, but those carton'd plants are some of the only plants that have ever died on me. You want to go to a place like Nourse Farms which specializes in raspberries. Can Walmart tell you the exact variety of yellow? If not, that's another reason to stay away.

Yeah, it's really sad what they do to plants in the name of profit... those poor things are the equivalent of puppy mill dogs, IMO, sort of doomed from day one.

And, you're lucky if what is on the box is what is inside, sometimes even to the level of species. I've seen mass merchandisers have a whole rack of daylilies in peony boxes, that sort of thing.

The only way I'd take a chance on them is if they were on deep, deep, deep clearance, like a quarter each, AND obviously alive and growing.

I ordered 100 Anne from "Nourse Farms", their GREAT, to me they taste like a cross between a raspberry & a kiwi. The Anne are for my own use first, then a few to sell at the farmers market. I'm starting a u-pick raspberry lot, about 3 acres/1500 plants per acre(3 kinds of red raspberries. Only planting one acre this spring, going to feel-out the whitetail deer, hoping they won't eat too much of the new growth. We have alot of deer around here. Because of the deer I already have 2 gardens with 10ft. high fence around them,(1 is 1 acre, the other is 1/2 acre. I'm hoping I won't have to put up more fence.

Seriously, there can't be a bad tasting raspberry. The different varieties each have their own taste, but bring 'em on. I'll take any raspberry offered.

I think the golds are a bit milder. They do taste like raspberries and are quite nice.

I won't buy the plants in cartons, but I have seen the local Lowes get some very nice potted berries. If you get them right when they come in, and don't let the staff there give them amateur care, they might be OK to buy 1 or 2 of them.
