Pruning a peach tree?

I have a peach tree on standard rootstock in it's third year. The last two I was really on spot with summer pruning, so each year it only had an extra 1-1.5 ft of new wood (I want to keep it under 6-8 ft). Last year however it escaped me, and now it has 3 ft long branches grown last year. As I see it, I have two choices:

1. cut those hard now to 1 ft. I will probably lose the crop this year (most flower buds are in the middle / upper section of the branches) which is undesirable.

2. let the tree be and after it fruits this year, cut it hard as 1 above (i.e. cut last year's growth to 1 ft). This will probably remove most of this year's growth altogether, and I'm not sure the tree will have enough vigor to create flower buds for next year.

3. do a combination of 1 and 2 above (cut some hard now, and the rest after fruiting).

Any advice?
