My builder uses Houzz Pro to plan the timeline and give detailed estimates and daily updates with photos of progress, and provide invoices at pre-agreed key points in the build. This made the whole experience much more efficient and stress-free.
I did a little research on your mutant hosta and found a couple of pictures you might want to look over.
Sometimes hostas are classified as plantain lilies - and after a search I found a couple that had similar leaf stalks to yours... Maybe this information will lead you in the right direction.
They are one in the same. I have seen hostas that do that, but they usually start out with normal leaves from the bottom, then shoot up, I'm not sure why.
