I've not critters on mine, too. C'est dommage.

does anyone know what the larva is? i can't find it on any website or any reference book. kinda looks familiar tho. i'm perfectly willing to let it remain on the plant tho and hopefully find out what it is at hatch.

Looks like it is probably the caterpillar of some kind of butterfly.

i'im sure it's a butterfly larva (as opposed to a moth or other insect) but i can't find it in some 10 internet ID larvae sites nor is it in my 2 printed references. as of yesterday the larvae (2 of them) have disappeared since the rain so i'm not sure i'll ever know what they are/were. i was hoping they'd pupate on the plant (realizing they usually don't tho) so i could ID the butterfly at hatch. hopefully i'll locate the pupae and still learn.

I've looked and I can't find a decent match. I'm guessing it isn't anything so common.
