Bred by INRA Angers, the same research institute that bred Florina Querina, "P6 R28-39" has been under testing for many years in the United States by the Disease Resistant Apple Breeding Program in cooperation with Purdue, Rutgers, & the University of Illinois. "P6 R28-39" has recently been released to Stark Bros. for distribution in the United States. Stark Bros. will be distributing this scab-resistant apple to residential customers under the name "Little Jewel". Because of its small size, which is similar to Centennial, there may be little interest by commercial growers in the United States to grow this apple.
