Kim: Only thing that comes to mind would be a filbert. Sure you won't like a blueberry? Much smaller and quicker to bear. Not many people want a small nut tree because yield is proportional to tree size. How about a sweet pit apricot? Eat the fruit and then the pits. Apricots can be kept much smaller than most nut trees.

how about an all-in-one almond ?

according to raintree it is a genetic semi-dwark topping out at 12-15 feet tall. they claim it is for zones 7-9.

i just purchased one thru burnt ridge and they state their trees at zones 5-7.

locally i know someone here in zone 5 that has 1 but it is not of fruiting age yet, so i also hope they were correct about it being ok for zone 5.

anyone out there know anything about zone hardiness for the all-in-one almond ? seems to be a conflict and quite possibly a dire one.

just checked and burnt ridge states zones 5-9 on their web site.

I guess I'm kind of wondering why? It's one thing to get 10 peaches off your miniature peach tree, but 10 almonds doesn't seem worth the space and effort. But that's just me!
Or were you thinking semi-dwarf (10-12 feet tall) instead of miniature?

Garfield Shults, in Homedale Idaho has selected & bred a seedling strain of dwarf Carpathian walnut - I've got one that's over 10 years old, and less than 8 feet tall - more like a bush than a tree.

Clifford England, at England's Orchard & Nursery has, in the past, had 'Chetopa', a dwarf shellbark selection.

Do you have a walnut graft or seed you can spare? Mr. Shunts has passed away, and I can't find any information on what became of his trees.
