i topped a 20 year old semi-dwarf apple today, leaving just the trunk and a couple branches. a main one was about 12 inches in diameter. i bark grafted 4 pieces into it, but the 12 inches was so wide across, i figured i didn't need to wax the whole 12 inches, so just waxed an inch or two around the grafts. is this a mistake? do i need to wax the whole 12 inches where i chainsawed it off? thanks!
