Good idea! I'll have to cross my fingers I can find one with an opening wide enough to cover the bulbs. It's about 15" across!!

I think that Ikea one looks like a great solution. Another possibility if the Ikea shade doesn't work out might be a large drum shade that could be hooked to your decorative center post.

I have a bare bulbs original fixture (hand crafted for the house) in my 1935 master bedroom. What I use is are large opaque "flame" bulbs. It looks much better than your bare bulbs and doesn't dampen the quality of light.

You can buy beautiful reproduction Edison bulbs now which would, strangely enough since they are antique-ish, give you a modern look! Just something else to consider... Look at http://edisonlightglobes.com/Shop/vintage-edison-light-bulb-range/ and see what you think. I saw them recently at a lighting store and thought they were so interesting.

HI -- I love the long bulb shown . You could then add some bling around the fixture by hanging some vintage chandelier crystal drops in a varity of sizes and shapes to make things more custom and interesting. This could end up being something that no one else has.

Another possibility would be to put in a screw in plug then get a hanging light with a shade. It could be supported by tying to the post in the middle.
