Darn I can not get it to work and I thought for sure I had it.
Anyhow my webshots album is doing a couple of strange things also, like not indicating that there are new items, but this is new made July 2005.

Hey Dena,
This is really lovely. It's neat with the texture on both sides of the leaves. I know that working with acid stains can be a little complicated sometimes but you achieved some great effects. Do you remember and/or would you be willing to share your notes.

Dena, the cabbage is beautiful. In one of my sleepless nights I had thought about how to cast cabbage leaves or even a cabbage head. Any tricks of the trade to pass along?

I'm happy to know other people think about how to cast a two sided cabbage leaf late at night:)

Dena, your cabbage sculpture is extraordinary! Did you make a mold? Did you also make the base?

Thank you for the accolades. I have to say that I even impressed myself. I consider just about everything I do an experiment, and 'crafy' not artistic.
When I had completed this, a friend of mine said 'you have to display it' to present it as art and something you feel good about. The black base was a good start and is just a little piece of 1x6 sprayed with black. Then I started experimenting with how to set it up higher. This same friend (who by the way I do consider an accomplished artist and experimenter) gave me the black walnut bangle, it was one her father had made for her, and a matching one for her mother in the 60's. She is very generous and only said that there is still one bangle left for display purposes and she would like to see something else on it, and had it reserved for something else I would do.

That is one that is my near future. My sis in law grows em that big......I have leaves from the outer edges that I cast last year, but will do them all over again to incorporate the large sphere center.

I've never been a big leaf fancier but your cabbage is completely different. I love the look.
There is something about your cabbage that makes me think of a comfortable bed or nest. A place protected, nurtured, safe. Like an egg in gentle hands.
Art to me is something that provokes strong feelings and something you never tire of looking at. Your cabbage is ART.
I would find a piece like that on my desk very comforting.

You have bigger troubles if a little cabbage provoked you :)

I just took a look at the bigger one and am thinking, thinkng about how everything should look. I really like the 'waterfall' effect in the pick. Stationed on a semi tall pedestal, waist height would certainly invoke curiousity.

Amazing, amazing, amazing!!! I've been having trouble with my DSL line for a few days and am just now getting to look at this.

What an inspiring piece--the viewer is brought beyond how the sculpture is made and into examination of what it symbolizes and the feelings it invokes (provokes? :-)) That's art! You are being way too humble when you say that you're not an artist. If none of the other wonderful sculptures you've made haven't qualified you, this one does. I'm looking forward to hearing about what you encounter when you show it to the public. How exciting! I'm excited for you!

But I completely agree with Deb.
This piece is fine art Dena. It far more than the sum of it's parts. You just want to reach out and touch it!
Make sure when you display it that you take precautions because everyone is going to want to feel it.:)

I am very happy with having entered this piece into a juried art show through Mukilteo Lighthouse Festival. I received first prize in the sculpture division. I also entered Bella Manicata d Roche, which was good for showing the variation of size for the two pieces.

OMG, that is too much, you always come up with the neatest ideas, how did I miss that on the tufa scene? I hardley ever think about snooping in the gallery, but I'm glad I did :-) That is more than craft, that is art!
