I was making concrete leaves one day and thought I would try something a little different. I first placed the hosta leaf in the bottom of a small plastic container. Mixed the portland and sand ( with a little buff liquid dye) and applied to the back of the leaf. Then I mixed some hypertufa (with a little black liquid dye) and gently applied to the remainder of the container and gently over the leaf as well. I was surprised that it worked. One would think the two "mixes" would blend together and make a mess. But it came out fine and with a little of the typical hypertufa roughing up, the base is slightly lower than the leaf. Tufa is easy to carve!
