Faux Bois 'How-To' Pix...

Hello Group,

Hope everyone had a fabulous holiday season and 2006 is going well so far. I've been busy working on an 8-foot Faux Bois table and bench set that I have also kept a photo record of. For anyone interested in the processes involved in constructing a large piece of this type, the progress pix should pretty much tell the story. I'm still working on it, so the final finish is yet to come (high winds are plaguing me right now), but if anyone is interested, I'll continue the photo posting.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us and taking the time to photograph and post the WIP.
I'm thinking I'd like to trade in my new KitchenAid mixer for a mig welder...

Is this a commissioned piece? Fantastic stuff, can't wait to see the final results.

GC --- Yes, this is a commission project for a brand new home which is really quite striking. Sort of a cross between Santa Fe Prairie style and Bauhaus. Worked with their architect & landscape designer who all wanted something simple & linear with fairly straight lines. The result was a design that's similar to a rustic picnic table & bench set. They are now also considering a very large bench (11 to 12 feet long) that would be a little more natural and curvaceous.

The photo sequences on this project were shot for use in the book I've been working on, but I thought a few of the folks here might be interested in following the basic steps as they are completed.

Not too sure about the swap though...mig welders are nice but they make lousy blueberry muffins.

Your table and benches are fantastic!!! If that's the scratch coat, I can't wait for the finishing coat! I'm still astonished that you can manuever those things around...even with the lifting arm. Please keep the pictures rolling, they are very inspiring.

Would love to except for the new "if you post it here it belongs to iVillage forever" policy that has gone into effect. I'm afraid I won't be putting anymore pix here at all. I (along with a lot of other folks) am hoping to find a more user friendly site somewhere. 'Til then or until iVillage totally changes their user agreement, it's a no go. Thanks for your kind comments and I hope we can all get together somewhere soon. I am more than happy to share with all my fellow garden-artisans and take my chances with images being stolen, but I have no desire to legally give away my copyright protection to support their business.
