Yes you can use the wig holder. Just make a hole in the bottom of the styrofoam head for the top of the totem. You won't be able to save the head. Cut off the leg of a panty hose and pull over the head or wrap the head with gauze. This is just to give the hypertufa something to stick it. Lay the head down on a piece of plastic in a sand tub. Work on one side at a time and put on one thin layer. Cover the whole tub with plastic and let the head setup a little before starting on another section. Once you get one thin layer on all the way around; you can put a second thin layer on. You can do this over several days if you have to.
I've also made a runny hypertufa mix and "dunked" the head. Kind of like dipping candles.

This will be my first 'real' project. I've done small containers through a seminar & also my garden club.

I'm pretty sure the lady who did it was a master gardener & her name was Billie, could it be you? May I ask where you are, I'm in the far east, Bucks county.

That's me. I'm in the lower end of Bucks County. I've got photos just have to find them. I'm the worst when it comes to taking and storing pics. I just found pics of a workshop that I did 4 years ago.
If you go to Bucks Beautiful Garden Fair stop in and say "hi". I'm giving a talk on "hypertufa" and working the Q & A booth on Sunday. The fair is from Friday night to Sunday. They've changed the format this year. Billie

I remember you and your club.
Isn't Herb Johns the greatest! He has such a relaxed manner teaching and a wealth of information from being in the cement industry. There are a lot of great classes at Del Val College at the Arboretum.
It's a shame you'll miss Bucks Beautiful this year. They've got new hours (Friday night) and a new format for seminars and guest speakers.

I have used the styro head, the one I used already had a hole up the middle. I just painted the outside of it with bonding agent and added the tufa.
