how to determine amount to mix

I am going to make a planter and use a rubbermaid storage container (about 14 x 20 x 8). I will use 1 part portland and 1 and a half peat and vermiculite. what unit of measure would you suggest? Something like 2 quarts of portland? I would appreciate some ballpark estimates. Marie

I first heard it here: Measure your peat and vermiculite to fill the mold, estimating how much you'll need for the walls. Try 2/3 full. Then remove the dry mix, add the portland (you'll know how much because you measured the peat and verm) and water to dry brownie mix consistency. Portland and water fill up the spaces in between the peat and vermiculite when mixed up.
My first planter took 7 batches. I kept making more, and then more... Good luck!
