Another One Bites the Dust???

Looks like another "alternative forum" has gone away...or does anyone know the status of "The Art of 'Crete"? Nice little forum with neat features, but like so many of the "upstarts", it just suddenly went poof. Hmmmmmmmm...is there a conspiracy afoot? Gotta' wonder. Does everyone who dares to start a new gardenart forum turn up missing?

I tried fo find it over the weekend Tango, didn't have any luck, thought it was just me!!!

    Tango,

I had an odd experience while surfing this site. Seems you had recently joined as a member. Then, the next day, you showed up as a "left the membership".

LOL, I figured if it ain't good enough for Tango...

It must have been an error, 'cause I was very active there for the month or two it was up. I guess I'll just have to start my own forum since all the others seem to vanish into the night. Watch the skies...

There appears to be little interest in participating in forums related to the concrete arts and crafts.
The Primal Garden forum is one of the best designed and run I have ever seen and it's virtually dead.

I belong to a yahoo group also, it lacks attention. I vote in Tango to start a forum.

There seems to be a history of new forums coming and going.I have joined several others just to find they are gone all of a sudden.I had thought the art of crete seemed to have a reasonable amount of postings, then poof, gone.I guess this is a some what seasonable sort of art.Hopefully things will liven up here.

    From the Primal Garden website:

Due to a lack of interest The Primal Garden Forum is closing up. It's been running for over two months and the number of members is just too low to continue. Too many folks just come to look. This type of forum needs more participation to work.

I'd like to thank all those who did participate. Your works speak for themselves. I am looking forward to just working with concrete/hypertufa and trying to sell what I've made.

    _________________________________

If you replace the words Primal Garden Forum with Hypertufa Art he expresses my reasons for closing my group exactly.
This is sad because the layout and format on the Primal site was the best I have seen and I know it was a lot of hard work to set it up.
I personally did not take part in the forum because I felt my open participation would have been detrimental to the site.
I really enjoy working with concrete and I'm looking forward to getting my wares out in front of the public. I can't possibly keep everything I make.

Right now I'm working on 2 large oval land/water Bonzai pots for a friend. He is so excited about the process he's infecting me and I'm having great time doing these.
I won't make any money but that's OK.

Let's hope NBC keeps this forum around.:)

There was a message in the hotmail account I had opened to join in the "Art of Crete" that it was closing. I agree that it was well run, as was yours, David.

Primal was also a good forum. I will miss it.

Tango, looking forward to your new forum!

Yahoo was a poor format for this type of subject.
    But it was free.
Primal Garden on the other hand was first class in every respect. An exceptional forum for the many different topics we call cement art. I had hoped once it got rolling to sneak in there unnoticed and add my two cents worth but it looks like I won't get a chance.
Primal Garden is going to be very hard to beat.
    It was a class act.
I wish Tango good luck with his forum.

    Go Tango, go!
    Do you have the time?
I've never tried any other forums, but I'd hate to find a good one and lose it!
I'd have joined Primal Garden if I'd known about it.
    How do you find them?

Getting the word out seems to be the hard part. Especially for sites that are on Yahoo & such. Googling from time to time is how I found Primals' site, but I don't think most people do that on a regular basis.

It takes time and a fair amount of "push" to promote any new site and both of those cost money, which is why some form of advertising is pretty much necessary for survival unless you're Bill Gates. I don't mind ads as long as they aren't distasteful or are so "in-your-face" that they interfere with the function and usability of the site the way so many seem to these days. Personally, I think those kind of ads make more enemies than customers. Both for the advertisers & the websites that allow them.

I'm really new to all of this, I found the gardenweb by searching and have been pleased with the results. Everyone has been very helpful. I agree it's tough to get the word out. I didn't know about the Primal Garden until it was gone. I found out about other ones through another post by David Mcdn. Because I have been dealing mostly with concrete and not hypertufa, I have joined the yahoo group Concrete Crafters, which is pretty idle at this point.

Well, heck! I had just found and liked the Primal Garden site. For all of the rules and lack of rights here, you have to give it to GW for longevity. Other sites are springing up, going away, or just too darn hard to login to. I'm hoping your's works out, Tango!!!

I won't be mentioning anymore hypertufa concrete sites.
GW has been getting complaints about it from this group and has issued me 2 warnings about advertizing 'my businesses' here.

There is a new forum out there (gardenrefuge.com) and we would be more than happy to have your participation! At present time most of it is about gardening, but there are hypertufa and concrete subjects set up. It's easy to navigate and a great group of people. Feel free to start up your conversations there!

    Garden Refuge is great.
    It just needs more posters.

It wasn't that crowded around here when GW started and it was quite a few years (we'd post in garden accoutrements) before the hypertufa forum came into existence. I've been a member before you needed passwords to log on. One time we all had our e-mail addresses highjacked and got hit with real nasty web sites. Most of the concrete sites were only around for a few months, it takes years to get established just like any business. Billie
