Is it just me, or...

...is the stupid Lake House ad becoming highly annoying? It's bad enough they've got blinky bouncy things on the top and side of every single page (I have an inner ear disorder and they set off my vertigo, which makes it really hard to read messages for very long), now they have to plaster them on TOP of what you're trying to read, EVERY SINGLE TIME you load a new page??? AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHH!!!

Whew. I feel better now. Thanks for listening.

LL --- I absolutely agree. Take a few seconds and email the advertiser. Tell them their ads got noticed. Tell them they also convinced you to never have anything to do with a brand that is so stupid that they apparently believe they can ANNOY you into buying something with such crappy, tasteless tactics!

I was in advertising & marketing for almost thirty years and I know three things to be fact: 1. Advertising Agencies are arrogant morons. 2. The companies they represent will fire their a-- in a heartbeat if they get enough negative response. 3. Consumers have no idea how much power they have to change things.

It's just like in politics. If you want things to BE different...YOU have to DO something different to create change. It won't happen on its own. Let's start a grassroots change right here folks. You ARE a brands ONLY source of income. You ARE a politicians ONLY source of power. Without YOU they are nothing. And it's amazing how much effect just a few words can have if they come from enough people. Tell the brands that any company that employs crap advertising must sell crap. Tell the politicians that when they spout BS, you will remember it on election day. They both spend millions of dollars trying to second guess what it is that you want to hear. Tell them. And tell your friends to tell them.

As Pollyanna as it may sound...it works. I've seen the effect that just a few letters can have from the "other" side. You really do have all the power folks.

That's it for my soapbox this morning. Go get'em.

    All my best --- Tango

I did send a message to GardenWeb regarding the usual ads and the problems they cause me. I got no response. Your insights are helpful -- I will start targeting the advertisers!

ladylong, you can click at the top of your screen on the Tools icon, then the Manage Add-ons. When your add ons load, click on the Shockwave Flash Object and click the Disable button at the bottom, then say OK. I disengaged mine a long time ago and I don't see those annoying ads everyone talks about. Sometime I find a page that says it cannot be displayed because I don't have Shockwave, and I go back and enable it just long enough to see that page. I rarely find that message though, and my internet experience is a lot less stressful without it. This will not block pop-ups, it just does not show those moving, flashing ads that annoys everyone to tears. I hope this helps.

Bless you, summerdaze--I followed your directions and it worked like a charm! I was just about to give up coming here because that $@#% South Beach video would play every time I opened a post. I will NEVER buy those products, just because of the stupid intrusive videos.

    Anyway, thanks again.

Hi, I am new here and love all the info you good people are writing here. I too was getting irritated by the ads, and I have been getting a Soapmaking Forum ready for a while now. So I thought why not add a tufa section as well. I hope I am not violating any rules posting this here. Come over and give it a look. I would love to get your input. http://www.rbath.com/Forums/
