The peat in the mix has soaked up water and that's why it is heavy. Once it dries out it will lighten up. How long have you been soaking it? I usually soak my troughs for a week but after I plant them I give them a good soaking when I water the plants so they have plenty of water to continously cure them for the next two weeks. Hope this helps.

SereneSeen is right, the peat has soaked up water making it heavy. As long as it isn't crumbling apart it should be ok. I never use the water bath curing method. Just wrap my stuff in plastic for about three days. HTH

Sorry, I was waiting for the more experienced to answer. I've never had a tufa project 'drip' after soaking. It will get lighter as it dries. Small pieces I put in a container to soak, while larger ones I spray with the hose & keep covered in plastic for several weeks. Uncover & continue to mist. I could be wrong, but I think the slow curing makes the tufa stronger in our colder climate with the freezing, thawing cycle we go thru. Keep us posted how it turns out & better yet show pics.
