I've read so much conflicting information! I had made a leaf mold from an elephant leaf, and plan to make another. But, I wanted to use them as a feeder, and water (for drinking and bathing for birds drink and bathe and squirrel & others to drink from). However, several sources say that the lime is toxic? I'm no concerned about putting the feed and water in the hypertufa leaves.

Any solid information on this? Also, what about a sealant that will work with hypertufa AND is safe for "consumption" in terms of coating a feeder/water trough/bath?
