Ball sizes-checked!!

Like I said befor.I checked diameters of the four balls that I'm currently using.Knowing that diameter=circumference divided by pi,I calculated that the ball sizes would be(in order)8.9 inches,13.36 inches,24 inches, and 30 inches. The concrete addition would add another 3/4 inch on most.30 inches is pretty big and weighs in around 40 lbs or so.My ultimate target would be 40 inches, but I'd need help on that beast!

Cheers from sunny,hot here!

Hey Rick those are pretty big balls. You know sometimes bigger is not better :).Have you got your web site updated with pics yet?It is also sunny hot over on the island, Hope to spend several days this week playing in the mud.

Bigger here is just...different.We've got one of the 24 inch ones on a pedastal in out front yard, with pump and light, and mister.Looks way cool at night!Putting the fountains entirely inside should appeal to the condo commandos(I was one for many years). The balls are on on the web now,and I'll be expanding the photo selection when I finish the next one,in a few days.
But,besides all that blather, being able to actually do it,make a jumbo ball that, while heavy, can still be moved ..I see that as a great challenge of the materials involved. The ball(mold) supplier in the U.S. makes these up to 14 FEET in diameter. Now,THAT would be an all week,multi-person attempt at the world's biggest concrete orb, maybe a Guiness book record...?Hm?
    But,for now,I'll stick with what's manageable.And,at the sizes proscribed,they are.
    BTW,was the weekend shopping a success?Any problems?

Hi Rick ,I took a look at your web site.Looks good. your wife did a good job. I had limited success with my shopping on the weekend. Univar would not sell me any Metakaolin with out me faxing them a copy of my business license. It was strange , their sales guy was more than happy to accomodate me, even asked if I just wanted a jar full. When I spoke to the order desk it was another story, they would not sell to an individual. My bf has his own business, so will get him to dig out the license and start again with that. Last week I went camping all week , so had a wonderful break.Got a local supplier here to order me in some silica fume, so I picked that up and am eager to do some playing in the mud this week. My Dad was feeling exhausted and I didn't make it to get the masks. :(
I am going to try and see if I can find someone local who will order the metakaolin in. I have a lot of fibres I bought when I lived in Calgary, so am okay on that. Mine also dissolve well in the water, just stir them in.
Have a great week, and keep cool.

Let me know about your MK search. We're set up as a business,so I didn't have the problem.I can send you a bit if you can't get someone to do it for you.You got your SF,so you can be playing with VERY sticky mud soon.I'm using the admix like Stella recommended before, and the stuff I create has virtually zero slump, perfect for my needs.I still"cure"the stuff for a few days. With the weather like it is,A black bag,a little moisture, seal the bag and leave it outside for a few days will set it nicely!
Anyways, gusets in our cabin so better get breakfast going.

    Rick, go for the record!!
The spheres you are holding in the photo - what do those measure? They must be featherlight considering you seem to be holding them with one finger each. Very impressive.

Hi,Laura-due to underinflation,I'd say these were about 20 inches in diameter.
I guess I could say, like the famous Everest climber, when asked why he was scaling the mountain, said"Because it's there"(I think(?)),that I'll try larger to see what happens. But,only in warmer months because it's strictly an outdoor construct!
    Cheers from here
