They are quite impressive! It makes me wonder why you don't grow normal carrots all around them (you can eat them, I'm told ;) for effect. We're growing some really interesting purple carrots at the moment.

Viewing it, I was suddenly transported back to the dinner table of my childhood when my innocent grandmother would warn that my sister, brother and I had better "Eat every carrot and pea on our plate," which of course caused the three of us to get absolutely hysterical. She, naturally, didn't understand the literal adolescent mind at first but quickly caught on and laughed with us, which endeared her to us even more. We did indeed finish those vegetables that night.

I only heard comments as a kid about peas and carrots. I liked peas, NEVER ever EVER should carrots or peas be canned though! Fresh is definitely best. We had a small garden and my dad worked in an area where there were farms a couple of summers and would get to go in after the machinery and pick to his hearts content...
My dad always recited, "I eat my peas with honey, I've done it all my life, It makes the peas taste funny, but it keeps them on my knife."

The bed the peas and carrots are in was the bed we did wonderful vegetable gardening when the kids were younger. However we fought slugs and cut worms and the weather, as we would go away for a couple of the hottest weeks. We live close enough to enjoy a wonderful Saturday market with beautiful vegetables all summer into the fall.
We have a small wheelbarrow of basil, spinach, lettuce and this year I planted globe carrots, but none of the seed has surfaced.
