the dreaded evapouration!
My DW and I have started putting water features around our property.By next summer,we'll have at least one decent waterfall(about 18 feet high),a deck feature for our B&B cabin, and our own little one in front of the house(Can be seen on our website),along with a largish pond that supports our dogs' polliwogs and frogs.
But...
After the first couple of weeks with our small feature going at the front of the house,I've come to realize that you need to be VERY watchful of your water levels.Case in point:Our feature is 16 inches deep,3 feet wide and the same in length.I filled the reservoir to 14 inches in depth 2 days ago. With the heat we've been having, evapouration has reared its ugly head and the water depth is down by 4 inches!!So,for those of you with small reservoirs,be vigilant!I'll be running around next year, every second day, probably, filling up the various water features,so that the pumps don't burn out!
I point this out on this forum as I've seen many fountains and water features here, created from concrete, and most have been incredible.Wouldn't want to see mechanical meltdowns because we forgot to check the water depth!
So,for those of you that think that I'd have no problems because all the rain that we get here would fill it up,ha-ha..not!!We're dry and we're hot these days.
Cheers from here
