You will save money and you can custom color to fit your area. If the mold has alot of detail portland and sand should give you the best look detail wise. If you use perlite or peat you lose some of the fine detail. Vermiculite gives it a nice color and is pretty fine so might work good even for detailed pieces.

Here is the website. If I just use the portland cement, sand and water what would be the ratio of the ingredients.

3 parts sand, 1 part cement, AROUND a half part water.

Be sure to mix the sand and cement well while dry, then add the water. Start with about half the water, get everything damp, then gradually add more until it's the consistency you want.

You've seen concrete being poured out of one of those big revolving trucks. DON'T make it anywhere near that sloppy -- you want a much drier mix, more like stiff muffin batter. The less water you add, the stronger your concrete will be, as long as it is all moistened. Too dry = weak. Too wet = weak. Try some small projects until you get the "feel" -- you'll save yourself a lot of frustration.

Thanks, I will try that mixture. Why is it that I don't use peat, vermiculite or perlite with this application? Is it because of strength? They also have a mold for a birdbath and garden bench. Would I use that same mixture in those applications also. Thanks for the info. Adele

Has anyone seen or have this type of edging? We are considering this in our front yard. Looking to reduce our lawn size and increase - add flower beds, so this thread caught my eye. We tried rr ties in the past, not again.

Hello, I have poured many of these molds. I find it easier to just use the cement and not the tuffa. My projects have all turned out great.
