Adding on mix

Hi, I did my second ever tufa project last evening (15th). A "simple" molding over a upsidedown cardboard box. Well after using up every last ounce of mix I now can see that around the edges of the box are too thin. I had it set for 2" thick walls but the edges look like anywhere between .5" to 1". So I have make more mix and add on to thicken up the edges otherwise it'll be awfully weak (outer dimensions are 26"x20" by 7" deep).

When is the best time to add more mix on? ASAP? after unmolding? a few weeks?

You can add mix even years later if you prepare your piece. Make sure your piece that you are adding mix to has been wet down to help the new mix stick. You can buy an acrylic additive at Home Depot or Lowes or a masonary supply house to add to your water or add Elmer's Glue to your water. It's just to make your new mix a little sticky. Don't make the new mix too watery. Cover the whole exterior with your new mix so you don't have two different colors. Billie
