Lots of what I have learned about Hypertufa has come from posters like Billie, Looking at old posts is also a good way to learn from others that have tried what you want to do. Some of the best ideas I use have come from Billie.

My formula is is one that is crafted for the class I teach.
I wanted a simple formula for new tufa crafters. Not too many ingredients, so it is not too expense for the first timers. There are many formulas, I have tried many of them and change frequently.
My formula is simply 1 part portland, 1 part peatmoss ( or cheep potting soil) and one part perlite.
I will occasionally add vermiculite, and maybe sand. But both are just done for a different look, not for a more successful or stronger pot. I occasionally use fiber if the piece is large, but never in smaller pieces. Just too much work. Cure it slowly and keep it moist for a week

Trial and error is the best teacher

I bought a book by Betty Macke about how to make papercrete, Something like hypertufa, but instead of peat you shred newspaper and soak it and mush it up and mix it with portland, sand, perlite...

Looks like hypertufa, but smoother. Use lots of paper and it weighs a little less.
