I am getting set to begin a faux rock project using the technique laid out in the following website:

I'm not too keen on paying $300 for a "rock texture" map and was wondering if any of you experts had any advice.

One idea I had in mind was, after applying the concrete, coverring up with a layer of sphagnum moss to get the porous texture, and then maybe burning it. Anyone try anything similar?
