Going to thrift stores

You know it's not my fault that I go to thrift stores fairly often. It's my car's fault, it knows where all the local thrift stores are! I really have to fight to keep it from automatically turning in to the parking lots. The car usually wins though, it's hard to argue with that much metal.

And once it's in the parking lot it'll plop itself down in a parking spot and absolutely refuse to move. I have to get out of the car, walk into the shop and linger a bit before the car will start again. Occasionally it'll be really grumpy and not unlock the door unless I have at least one shopping bag in my hand.

I've taken the car in for counseling but the therapist said that this is something the vehicle is going to have work through on it's own. So you see, my hands are tied.

I'm a victim here!

So true...I think my car has the same affliction. If you discover a cure, don't tell me.

It must be contagious! I have the same issue with my van...and it passed down from my previous one! Too funny!

Due to a peri-mental-pause problem and an aformentioned Folgers Disorder, I have found that sleep eludes me most nights lately. Late last night/this morning about 3-ish, I found myself watching GERALDINE JONES (Flip Wilson) on YouTube. The comedic routine was the one titled "THE DEVIL MADE ME BUY THIS DRESS". I laughed so hard as I imagined myself saying "THE DEVIL MADE ME BUY THIS JUNK". Isn't it funny how we feel a wee bit guilty when we indulge our own personal pleasures. But feel totally justified in spending on other family memebers?

If my vehicle starts pulling itself into the local pub or night spot, that is when I will start feeling naughty. Otherwise folks, I think our obsession is pure clean fun. Creativity Is A "God Thang"!!!!!!! ouuu-ouuuu-ouuu another great T-Shirt idea.

    Enjoy!

Any miss pelled wurds ar dew tu and afliction that tha old wooman coused!

Oh Susie, as soon as I read "Geraldine Jones" I started giggling.
When I read "The devil made me buy this junk" I thought of JT and it was ROFLMAO time.
How appropriate that our mascot is a little pink horned beastie. I wonder if JT's middle name is Geraldine?

Please excuse me, I need to go squeegee the tears off my face.

Well folks I just thot I'd let u no that there isn't any hope for your vehicles. I have had my neon in a car support group for thrift store addiction for almost a year now and it isn't helping at all. A couple of months ago I thought that maybe my neon was improving when we passed the gw in Springfield. But when we ended in Rivergate at the bigger gw I realized that all is hopeless and have withdrawn my neon from group therapy. I have learned to go with the flow and resign myself to stopping at gw often. So if any of you are toying with the idea of therapy for your vehicles, FORGET IT AND SHOP TIL YOU DROP. It's much better therapy.

boy do i ever know that urge to be in a thrift shop... and the crazy thing about it is: I work in one! You wouldn't believe the things that we get to get out of the trash to recycle... i've built a garden fence out of wooden pallets (which i had to take down) and two trellises out of the wooden frame from a twin boxspring... that really doesn't scratch the surface, but most of my fun comes out of the dumpster believe it or not. anything to keep stuff out of the landfill!
so from someone whose livelyhood counts on a thrift shop: KEEP SHOPPING! :)

I know the feeling! I know where every Goodwill is in the city. I know all the best thrift stores within a 20 mile radius. At least the junk train should help a little. I can junk shop in the comfort of my own home!

It also doesn't help when you have a little voice in the backseat(4 yr old) egging the car on. She knows all the TS's by sight. I've created a mini addict. ha She likes to dig thru the toys and books. Mom goes for the garden junk! Found this little beauty yesterday for $2. =)

Oh, I love her Ang! What a great find!

Sortagreenthumb---I would be totally nuts if I worked in a TS or GW! I would never have any money left in my paycheck!

My whole family has the addiction! We've always taken our daughter with us and she's now a college student and keeps her eyes open in her college town as well! We've always had a great time junking! And I also think its a great thing to teach our kids--that "new" isn't always better and let them be part of the creative process when we're making or remaking things!

Ok....that sounded a little preachy....sorry! But, it always amazes me the things that people take to the dump, etc. I'm just as happy with my junk as I would be if it were all bought on Rodeo Drive!

    Here's to J-U-N-Q-U-E!!!!!

I too work at a thrift store...my fav one!lol! How bad is that!!??? I was shopping there one day and realized they need help so walked into the office and told Mike(boss) that he better hire me cuz I'm gonna work there anyways!lol! I've also served on the board of directers, did the bingo, and volunteered in the thrift store. Now I'm getting paid so I can support my habit...and it's a bad one now!!!lol! Yesterday I brought home a medium sized suitcase(needed it for my trip to Mexico in 2 weeks..YAAAA) FULL of books!!! I read a lot too! Suitcase and books...a mere $2!!! Oh I'm baaadddd!!! heh heh! I am always scrounging in the metal bin and glass bins and garbage bins too!!! What scores I get!!! More blue bottles than you can shake a stick at!lol! And the neatest old metal stuff...it really is amazing what people throw away!!! I went to the dump a while back and was soooo discusted with how much amazing perfectly good stuff was being tossed, and you are NOT allowed to root thru it, it just becomes "the property of the district"grrrr okay enough ranting...I'm off to work...wonder what goodies I'll find today? The best stuff is what I haul outta the bins!!!lol! Scrounger Jane to the rescue!!!

If I working at a TS, I would have no money and need a bigger house with all the stuff I would want to bring home. My problem is I love to just collect it so much that I have trouble finding the time to complete projects.

Anj - You bring up a good point. I should start taking my niece with me junkin'...how else will she learn the trade...LOL. My sister goes with her, but I know they mostly shop for clothes, so her Auntie Dottie must show her the fun side.....

I'm planning to go to Seattle soon to spend a day with my granddaughter. She had asked me what I'd like to do while I'm there. Last night I was thinking about that question and I thought, "Thrift stores!!!!!!!!!!" I wondering if her car is trained.

    Nice angel Anj!

Yeppp!!! Every vehicle I'v had has this same illness!! LOL!! I am upset with goodwill though..when you see something from the dollar tree for 99cents!!! They have raised their prices so finding a bargin is hard. But I still love the hunt.
    Anj... love your angel.

We used to have a post that started on Fri or Sat and everyone posted their finds for the week... ts, gsale or dumpster finds. It was alot of fun.

Thanks ya'll. I really like the angel too. She's bigger than she seems in the picture and the kids really love her gazing ball head.

Bright...I remember those weekly posts. They were really fun and jealousy inducing! People find the greatest things in the trash!

Anj, love the angel!! Someone mentioned Rodeo Drive,we went there last year & walked around .I was floored at the poor workmenship of some of the dresses in the store windows!!! It has changed so much since I was down there yrs ago. But I can't believe people actually buy some of that stuff. It was sad. Get better quality at TS!!! The prices were really high also on few that had a price as you can well imagine!! We have it so much better, we don't go home broke, well if we do it's not so bad. If you are addicted just take $20 with you & that's it!!! Jan
